On the ground – Private transport

Help

Unless you just would like to calculate the footprint of a single trip, please enter your complete annual mileage for each type of transport.

Quick Tip: If you have a plug-in hybrid or electric car and intend to also fill electricity consumption in the "At home" tab please be sure to read the popup help about charging your car with renewables.

Charging your car with renewables

Plug-in Hybrid and Electric vehicles have a carbon footprint associated with the electricity used to charge them.

If you are charging your car from renewable energy, enter the proportion of the charging time that is attributable to those renewables. The figure may not be 100%, particularly if you are charging away from home (or if you don't use renewable energy at home).

Note: Be aware of the risk of double counting – particularly if you are not using renewable energy at home but do most of your charging there. If you are also filling in your energy consumption in the "At home" tab subtract the energy used for charging your car, if known. Otherwise you can estimate it based on the battery size of your car and how many hours you spend charging.
